NATO Summit, Great Reminder for Risk Management Basics

Are we tired of hearing about it? Yes! NATO has monopolized the media for weeks with updates on dignitaries’ arrival, secret service precautions, protestors and the downtown business community’s preparation for what is sure to be a busy and eventful weekend in the windy city. We’re not going into the significance of this event; no doubt is it important and a great opportunity for Chicago to put out the welcome mat for world leaders. From a worker’s compensation perspective, the business community’s response, preparation and planning are a great reminder for all of us to review our risk management.
A fantastic article in BusinessInsurance.com this week highlights how a few businesses have prepared for the weekend’s events. From reviewing insurance coverage to analyzing potential threats to the building occupants, employees, customers and physical infrastructure damage; and reviewing communication plans from call trees and utilizing social media to stay in touch with employees. And many companies have decided the safest option was sending employees home or offering a work from home option.
Get back to basics. When is the last time your insurance coverage was reviewed? Your communication plan touched? Phone tree updated? Thanks NATO for the risk management reminder.
